It was first discovered in the copper mines of Bisbee, Arizona, specifically the Shattuck Mine (hence the name). It is a secondary mineral that forms from the alteration of other secondary minerals. Normally it forms pseudomorphs after malachite. Most available specimens are very small, under 1". Shattuckite contains dark blue Turquoise, Malachite (green), and Chrysocolla (lighter blue). Bisbee turquoise typically has a chocolate brown matrix. Shuttuckite can have a reddish brown to black matrix.
