Keum-boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of gold to silver. I repeatedly flame heated the chunky Sterling Silver piece to bring it's Fine Silver content to the surface. From there, I reticulated the silver using the flame to flow the silver and create a textured pattern. Once the pattern I desired was achieved, I heated it once again with a hot plate, and used pressure to fuse the 24K Gold to the surface. During the fusion bonding of the two metals, atoms will exchange in a collision combining them into one. Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver, in this form the metal is beautiful and suffers from minimal tarnish, compared to Sterling Silver which is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. I added a patina to make the texture pop, and give it a slightly rustic finish.
