Gabbs opalized wood refers to petrified wood found near Gabbs, Nevada. It has been replaced by opal during a geological process. This process, where silica-rich water replaces the organic material of buried trees, results in colorful, stone-like wood that can range from common opal to precious opal. It often preserves the wood's grain in addition.
